reconstruction strategy for Washington? (Continued) What

-
[First part of article: What reconstruction strategy for Washington? ]

--- The Wizards have not thousands of opportunities that present themselves to rebuilding their door. Tinker with the current workforce or destroy much to recreate a new one with the patience and the players of the future, these are the two strategies I suggested in the first part of this article. I then explained that the former was stupid and finally had a second chance to achieve very thin to a successful conclusion, given the difficulty of it to complete correctly and the required portion of luck. But is there another, and especially better solution?

--- Maybe. Why, indeed, do not try to directly build a core of experienced players and acknowledged rather than recruiting young elements and wait until they are able to bring the franchise? It sure as it says there is no need to fiddle with the brain long to conclude that this is the best thing to do and if it to get this far, I have done better to spare you the numerous paragraphs above this brilliant proposal. Assemble experienced players and very good level is better than recruiting young which is hoped they will become: the uncertainties and risks related to betting on the future and the relationship between the present and future are scanned, the value of players is known, reliable, their profile is definitive, personality and set about the final configuration of the roster, much easier to design effectively.

--- already With John Wall in the workforce even if not moving (which would be a real heart-breaking as its scope for growth is large) remain a very good leader, DC that would really put his side two or three strong players, quite young (24.25 years to have the time to build the rest of the workforce around this framework and that this team has a number of years before it) to fuel the hopes and dreams of success. As easy as turning Yi Jianlian in Dirk Nowitzki, right?

--- Except that it seems some juicy opportunities that exist Wash 'could refer his chubby fingers. The first is called Josh Smith, the second OJ Mayo. These two are young (25 and 23 years), efficient, compatible and with John Wall and finally, they could be sold to Wizards with less difficulty than their values suggest. As I slid here and there, Smith and Mayo will probably not part of the future of their franchises respective OJ Mayo because after having screened the contracts of Rudy Gay, Mike Conley and soon those Zach Randolph and (or?) Marc Gasol, Memphis will have more dollars to settle, and Josh Smith for almost the same reasons that since Joe Johnson and Al Horford have become much richer. Memphis and Atlanta have already taken and managerial decisions that will lead inevitably to the departure of the two men. This is where Washington has a playing card. The relief to night colors could offer to relieve the southern two teams of two players by offering in exchange a few elements that, if they do not match the talent of Smith and Mayo could perfectly match some of their specific and urgent needs.

--- For Josh Smith, Washington can indeed lure Atlanta several ways. By offering Kirk Hinrich to start. With Mike Bibby who declines cushy but surely, the Hawks should see a good eye the arrival of the former Bull. The latter is able to effectively distribute the ball (not insignificant in this training is not as steeped in the concept of movement of the ball that teams like Boston or San Antonio), to shoot, defend (excellent "upgrade" by compared with Bibby) and especially to play without the ball, what should appreciate Joe Johnson and his propensity to hand over the swells from time to time. This description closely resembles the composite sketch perfect type of leader for workforce and training Georgian game away from projects that are Jeff Teague and Jordan Crawford. While the contract Hinrich is quite big (8.5 million / year over two seasons), can be developed to cancel the interest for Atlanta to have him in its ranks because it is precisely because of his contract (and the minimum wage which would enable its value to pretend) that Josh Smith is seen leaving. But it might be smart for the Hawks to spend their drachmas a leader who seems to delight them go. How many point guards as interesting to them will they have the opportunity to gain without putting an excessive price?

--- other hand, Washington can adjust the trade to facilitate the decision of the Hawks. In addition to Josh Smith, the Wizards can offer them to pick up Mike Bibby, which would become redundant with the arrival of Hinrich, Jamal Crawford's presence and that of those who are called to take over from him, Jeff Teague and Jordan Crawford. Wash 'may even slip into the conversation, in addition to or instead of Bibby, Marvin Williams in which the Georgians do not count most and which costs them round. In return for continuing the operation of seduction, Washington can put in the balance of contracts graduates (Josh Howard Al Thornton, Yi Jianlian) and / or holy grail for the Hawks, they can put a pivot on the ground with little to winnow (Javal McGee, Andray Blatch, even if the Falcons flew near the sun too long ).

--- Whether with Hinrich, contracts graduates, pivots too questionable or opportunities for degreasing payroll, DC has the elements (no matter which one uses and how they are combined) to convince Atlanta to get rid of Josh Smith. And these, surplus for the Wizards, could also allow them OJ Mayo. As Atlanta, Memphis might have an interest in hosting contracts graduates as Howard Thornton and Yi have to wage flexibility and financial support for the extension of their domestic sector, Zach Randolph and Marc Gasol. One can also imagine Memphis question of a possible acquisition of Andray Blatch to take the place of Randolph. Blatch is not as good as the old wooden head of the Blazers and Knicks, but he is much younger and above his salary, considerably lower (about 6.5 million / year) is set at this height modest the next five years. Therefore, the Tennessean would pay a greater margin to ensure the extension of Gasol and build a bank of qualities without losing too much talent on the position of power forward in return. It's a little big, but we have seen with stroke as a strategy in this league. And why not play on the feelings by donating to Hasheem Thabeet rid of? Beyond the small economy (as a No. 2 draft pick, the Tanzanian receives 5 million / year), the Grizzlies certainly would be relieved to turn the embarrassing page of this very high draft choice very misused.

--- And if all these currencies in exchange that the account owner Washingtonese not enough to conquer Josh Smith or OJ Mayo, why not offer up the rights to the future draft choice in 2011? It will certainly be very well positioned given the current balance of frankness and abandon is not a decision taken lightly but a player like Mayo Smith or not is not it? I mean, anybody would be happy to see one of his young recruits draftee in the top 10 one day reach the level of these two players. As well avoid all risks and uncertainties of using the draft pick for the type of player we hoped drafter with that choice, right? In contrast, Washington could miss a player that would eventually become stronger than the Hawk or the Grizzly, but the probability that this happens is not very thick. In reality, it is as great as the probability of making a mistake or fall on a player who would be worse than our two targets already proven talent. Clearly, recruiting Mayo Smith through this draft picks is less risky than keeping and using this pick. That is why I would not hesitate long before giving up.

--- If I'm ready to send up to nail a good future choices draft is that I think associates to John Wall, Mayo and Smith would form now a Big Three of a beautiful scale on which the franchise could use to reach and sustain the top of the table and why not come and play the tough with those who occupy the top. This trio would not only stupidly to assemble the brilliance of John Wall, the impact of athleticism and defensive Josh Smith inside a permanently installed to the position of power-forward position in which it provides the most offensive-and palette of OJ Mayo, it would also demonstrate compatibility and complementarity promising a brighter future: all three are known to be very effective on fast play, Mayo is the shooter that is not Wall and Smith, and J-Smoove greedily benefit opportunities that could create the qualities of smugglers / destabilizing defense of Wall while the first draft pick of 2010 would find in the amazing athletic ability of the Hawk a very interesting topic to dig. For a trio like that, I signed right away, you tell me where and how.

--- Maybe some of you see a gap between current performance of OJ Mayo (12.2 pts and lost his seat in ownership) and how I talk about here. I can not deny that his season is not up to someone known to form a Big Three of excellent craftsmanship but it is for me a simple bad passes that should not too pull down the value ascribed to him. Forget the massive hype that has festered around his high school years, she was stupid as are most Hypes juveniles (who remembers Demetrius Walker, the so-called next LeBron James?). By cons, we can not take away what followed. In only one year of university, he moved the player who saw the sport in a one against five permanent scorer who seeks to do for How good he is without derailing the play of his team. In his first season in the NBA, he emerged as a dangerous shooting guard (18.5 pts per game) and in the second he has maintained a similar performance (17.5 pts), while Zach Randolph was in the meantime come put his buttocks and his food quota for tickets shoot in Tennessee. Backwards in the hierarchy offensive in favor of the latter without flinching, he instead seek to improve its efficiency (it rose from 43.8% field goal at 45.8%). In general, his attitude is remarkable. He was an individualist in frenzied also inflated ego that the shoots of Milos Teodosic , it is now indisputable that a former owner agrees to start the game on the bench without making waves. How many players can boast of such a change of mentality?

--- I come to his performance a bit disappointing this year and that makes me say that this is a bad password. Much of his game relies on the shoot and the shooters need a good dose of confidence to be successful. More than that, without trust, a scorer / shooter is not much. However, Memphis has unintentionally given a lot of a penknife to the confidence of his back during the offseason by providing a bridge of gold to Rudy Gay and Mike Conley oversized contract, meaning without much subtlety that the franchise can not afford Mayo to propose a contract to live up to its merits when its lease expires rookie. Spinning a big ticket foreign banks in these two-and obviously they will send the next big check to a procedure, Randolph or Gasol or even both if they succeed, the Grizzlies have shown that they implicitly really no longer relied on Mayo and the two very bonn es years as he has done since their colors were ultimately not so much value it in their eyes. The recruitment of a rear-wing shooter rather like Xavier Henry during the NBA Draft did not have to resonate differently to the ear of the number 32. Has he said that the Grizz were drafter of its future replacement? Whether this was really the intention of the franchise or not, this is the kind of stuff lying around in my head.

--- All this laid end-to-end, trust that good Ovinton J'Anthony Mayo has been seriously eroded. And her ordeal did not stop there, she has certainly taken quite a slap when the rear wanted to try his hand at point guard during the summer league. He has always wanted to occupy this position was well aware that the experience had turned, like an old milk carton forgotten in the fridge (most of stray bullets that assists against players of a very modest ). And although in my opinion, this result was not surprising (not after five or six games a poor competition unlike anything we become a leader, especially when we knows that the other participants are there to show themselves individually and that the concept of team play is usually left the locker room) and did not draw conclusions about its ability to evolve one day to the position of point guard (and still said he would never be able), he had to take this experience for a huge personal failure. Needless to say that the big contract extension point guard Mike Conley of which occurred shortly after painfully had to drive the nail.

--- And as a pastry chef who believes misguided good to spread a generous layer of honey on a cake already too rich in sugar, his father took this difficult time to place his name in the legal section of newspapers, and rather badly . So finally, with a confidence and an emotional context trampled very complicated, it is doing pretty well in the field (12.2 pts in 28.8 minutes) and outside (no word louder than the other, only the incident with Tony Allen burst this ocean of stoicism) and I do not see why it could not again become the scorer would normally dreaded after a transfer away from Memphis.

--- Perhaps some see a dim view of the possible need for Washington to take the "bad deeds" as Memphis and Atlanta could impose in the negotiation for OJ Mayo and Josh Smith. The risk of being blocked in the future by such assets unenviable, bulky and often immovable is actually a calculation that must be taken into account, especially since the franchise should already be stuffing the huge contract of Rashard Lewis. In principle, a franchise in rebuilding pegged balls such that they greatly complicate his effort to return to the surface. But we something for nothing and the Wizards have not in their poss ession what snatch players listed in their original franchise. Therefore, rather than providing a "more" in exchange for a "plus", the Wizz have no other choice but to offer them to relieve them of a "less", they remove a thorn the feet. However, in cases of transfer as I mentioned, I am not persuaded that the elements that constitute real thorns in the feet to Atlanta or Memphis, will be to Washington. What are these players likely to land in the U.S. capital over the trades Josh Smith or OJ Mayo because their franchise wanted use these operations to get rid of them?

Mike Bibby ? A veteran like him would not hurt a Big Three far from the thirties and his rich experience could be very profitable for John Wall, both sharing the oh so delicate point guard. Moreover, it would as back-up shooter Wall and reliable enough valuable asset for the team that begins to emerge in these lines.

Marvin Williams ? His contract is long and quite big (about 7.5 million until 2014) but if it bothers him so much that it Atlanta is more expensive because the franchise to Dominique Wilkins, owner of a payroll already large, would like to put that money on other players like Josh Smith, a pivot or a cheerleader for take over from Mike Bibby, only because the good Marvin Williams is not at the level corresponding to his contract. Staff charged this year with a solid 10.9% to 48.4 pts and 4.8 rebs, the small forward is far from its status as a No. 2 draft pick, but he made a beautiful piece of add-in that would adjust not hurt Wall sides of the triangle-Josh Smith-Mayo. The former Tar Heel is big, strong, very athletic, good shooter (rather mid-distance) and one can imagine to put these qualities to the services of his team, taking rebounds, draining his energy into defense, tiring opponents seeking to stand out and enjoying the attraction of the Big Three Washington on opposing defenses to include some open shots and easy baskets. I wonder if you could not make the defensive stopper assigned to these new-look Wizards saw physical abilities he possesses. Maybe his salary is a little high compared to the relatively minor role that I see him play, but expenses are much better digested with victories and the addition of a support player like Marvin Williams (who in this case would permit the arrival of Josh Smith) to the trio pillar of reconstruction is undoubtedly a step towards them.

Hasheem Thabeet ? Well, his contract may terminate in 2012 if his franchise has the will and meanwhile, it may be interesting to try his luck with rod African chosen in second place in the NBA Draft 2009. The reconstruction phase, especially in its early stages, is perfect for engaging in this kind of experience. And who knows, Thabeet still a young player underdeveloped. He can still gain muscle, become hardened, gain basic and technical finesse. A pleasant surprise may be to go and if not, simply let him go in one and a half.

--- Thus, Memphis and Atlanta have no real shot well sealed to throw at the Wizards. And even though it should not be deprived of a Big Three meeting quality under this pretext. Having a base level is the priority, the adjustments can be made after the ball or be simply and patiently supported if newly designed training shows promise. As the team showed real potential and performance worthy of interest, Problems such as these are unimportant for now. Likewise with a workforce that, even during Reconstruction, is imperfectly structured and a little unbalanced. This is not always avoidable and, for example, the Washington reconfigured by the transfers of which I speak here could find themselves in the worst-assumptions-with a completely crowded station 4 (Josh Smith, Rashard Lewis, Andray Blatch and Yi Jianlian if no the latter two is embedded in a transfer by bringing Smith or Mayo) and one 5, which sounds dangerously hollow (Kevin Seraphin and Hilton Armstrong). But from the moment we have a quality base like I imagine be the trio Wall-Mayo-Smith, filling the roster and rebalancing is simple. Because with this, the franchise has mapped out a direction to follow for the next stage of its reconstruction: finding players who will complement the basic pillars of the best possible way. Profiles to search, set according to the trio, are identified and build a cohesive team and complete becomes much easier.

--- Moreover, beyond this, the presence of the Big Three largely upstream of the reconstruction process would also attract better players supplements on the market for free agents. Indeed, as one would imagine to see Marc Gasol (who is little more than a complementary player, that's right) and Anthony Parker to be tempted by the idea of joining a team this summer in Washington with the scent of the playoffs and golden future with a Big Three fledgling but talented and consistent as we doubt this possibility with the current workforce. And with a future full of wins, playoffs and fighting in high places, all wrapped in a whisper uttered the word "outsider", that Washington carried by Wall, Smith and Mayo could even possibly hire excellent role players by putting a little less money than other less promising franchises.

--- Look, a secondary recruitment greatly simplified, the need to have some leeway pay overshadowed by these facilities reconstruction and the prospect of having a winning team, the benefit of having a Big Three interesting overcomes many cases the price that the franchise had to pay for it. That's why I Please do not hesitate long before concluding a transaction that allows me to associate Josh Smith and OJ Mayo to John Wall, even why I should take with me some bad contracts or lose Javal McGee useful but not necessarily exciting.

--- To end this stage of "dressing" of the framework, we can add that if there is some of the Wizards 'currency exchange' that I mentioned a few paragraphs ago after concluding the transfer of OJ Mayo, Josh Smith (contracts graduates, all players on which the exemption does not count the years ,...), Wash 'it could used now to bring some interesting role players. Houston for example has a staff to crack the game sheets, why not propose to take a contract in exchange for ending their rotations many good story that Texans can benefit from greater wage flexibility? Chuck Hayes, Jordan Hill (both of which play pivotal), Chase Budinger, Courtney Lee and Terrence Williams, any of these players would be a good reinforcement. As for the Mavericks, they just hire Peja Stojakovic, but it is not certain that the Serbian manages to bridge the ambitious free Mark Cuban. So maybe they are interested in their old knowledge, Josh Howard or Al Thornton, both small forwards and their contract ending this year? Perfect for Dallas could benefit from the services of one of these two players until the end of the year and separate them without charge during the offseason when Caron Butler will be recovering from his injury. In exchange, Washington might be satisfied with the Ian Mahinmi pivotal, especially if Javal McGee has been sent to Atlanta a few transactions before.

--- Seizing the opportunities engendered by the particular circumstances of Josh Smith in Atlanta to Memphis and OJ Mayo would be in my opinion the best way for Washington to find a lasting and enviable standing more bite into the interesting parts of NBA rankings. How many times a franchise as helpless as the Wizards Will it the opportunity to recruit players of that value in the prime of life and build a real competitive team for several years without having to learn too much in return ? If I was on the staff of the franchise blue night, I'll bite your nose rather than let this opportunity pass. And with any luck, Kevin Seraphin become the pivotal role player, totem rackets mentioned one of his possible future and will complete the greatest weakness of the Washington 2.0 that draws the double section, the center position without the General Manager has to make more effort. But there it distracted my dreams begins to take over my thoughts.
